During my speech to the TEDx conference in Matera, where i met Rosanna for the first time, I said that “The pencil is a very important and effective tool of communication.” Today I must add that, it’s also dangerous tool.
I am very sorry for Charlie Hebdo events, and I strongly condemn all forms of terrorism or any attack to prevent freedom of speech. But on the one hand I also condemn Islamophobia that many people have shown after these events due to misinformation. Often the west, tend to connect incorrectly terrorism to the Islamic religion and consequently generalize, calling Muslims terrorists, when we are here in the front row to condemn terrorism and dissociate ourselves from it, because Islam itself condemns terrorism. On the other hand, terrorists, still manipulate islam to justify criminal acts, and that is the huge mistake.
A terrorist attack is not just the attack that leads to kill for an alleged fanatical “revenge in the name of God”, but it is a blow to the entire Muslim community who is dedicated to the dialogue, and to transmit the true face of Islam, so we can live together in peace, because the real Islam is not terrorism. Islam is not terrorism. Terrorism is a crime without religion .
A crime which we all condemn regardless our religious or creeds!
Today I feel compelled, more than ever, continuing to condemn terrorism and Islamophobia through my most powerful weapon, my pencil
My deepest sympathy to victis’ families!
